As the highest-rated Warner Bros. Network show of all time, "Dawson's Creek" provided some real-life drama along with the plot lines it dishes up every Wednesday night.
Despite finger-wagging condemnation from the Parents' Television Council, the WB kept the teen drama on the air, and gay and lesbian fans have enjoyed watching the touching development of Jack McPhee's coming out as gay.
The show's creator, Kevin Williamson ("Scream," " I Know What You Did Last Summer," "Teaching Mrs. Tingle") is gay and not afraid to talk about it. Series producer Greg Berlanti is gay, too. His hit film, "The Broken Hearts Club," is about a West Hollywood gay softball team.
Although Williamson decided to move on to greener pastures, he left the show in 2000 with a bang -- a season finale featuring Jack and his beau in primetime television's first romantic gay kiss. And thank sweeps month for the May 2, 2001, episode which featured an even longer, hotter kiss between Jack and Tobey.
With the "Creek" crew in college, and the cast's contracts set to expire, everyone decided to end the show's run before story ideas completely dry up and Dawson and Co. join the Geritol set.
Currently, the cast of "Dawson's Creek" keeps racking up the film credits and developing as actors. Michelle Williams can be seen in "If These Walls Could Talk 2" and "Dick," Katie Holmes in "Go" and "Phone Booth," Joshua Jackson in "Skulls," "Apt Pupil and "Cruel Intentions," and James Van Der Beek in "Varsity Blues" and "The Rules of Attraction."
