Prop. 8: The Musical

Jack Black, Neil Patrick Harris and a host of headlining stars lent their time and talent to a hilarious three-minute video written and produced by Marc Shaiman (Tony-winner for Hairspray).

The clip portrays a frolicking group of gays, lesbians and supporters celebrating the dawning of the Age of Obama and turning the page on an America that values diversity and freedom for all. Margaret Cho, Andy Richter and Maya Rudolph play members of the happy gay group.

Unfortunately their parade is rained on by a conservative Christian group (including John C. Reilly as a pastor and Allison Janney and Kathy Najimy as his wives) introducing and supporting Prop. 8.

After they remind the gays the bible considers gays and lesbians an abomination, Jack Black appears as Jesus to remind them the bible also considers tasty shrimp cocktail an abomination.

Michael Phelps Takes a Dip with Anderson Cooper

Andersonmichael First Anderson Cooper bends it with Beckham; now he's getting wet with Michael Phelps. Gotta give it to the Silver Fox: he's taking full advantage of his press pass.

Cooper's 13-minute 60 Minutes segment on Phelps is a little late in coming. Most of us know practically all there is to know about the Olympic It-Boy. And what we do learn (he wasn't completely happy with his performance in Beijing; he turns down $5 million endorsement deals daily) isn't all that revelatory.

"Milk" Review

M03503 I never saw Harvey Milk as a living, breathing person as I was born just before he died.   Seeing the businessman-turned camera man-turned SF City Supervisor-turned gay icon only in hindsight through the lens of historical footage (wild eyes, signature fist-pumping gesture, trademark lines and all) made him appear as more of a superhuman freedom fighter, sacrificing his own life so that gays everywhere wouldn't have to sacrifice theirs.

Daniel Radcliffe Bares All On "Inside The Actors Studio"

DanielradcliffeWhen we saw the Harry Potter films, little did we know that Daniel Radcliffe would go from waving his wand on the big screen to waving his, well, other wand in front of a live audience in the Broadway run of Equus.

For those of you who haven't seen the psychodrama, Daniel, who is 19-years-old now, is cast in the role of Alan Strang, a troubled stable boy. During a pivotal scene in the production, Alan appears naked.

Kathy Griffin Commits To A Fifth Season Of "D-List"

Kathy_griffin_bravo Bravo may have lost Project Runway, but the network is holding on tight to Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, which is a relief.

There was actually some question as to whether the inimitable Kathy Griffin would do a fifth season of D-List for Bravo. While the network claimed back in September that it had locked Kathy into a deal, she subsequently told the Chicago Sun-Times that she hadn't come to terms with Bravo and was in fact talking to another cable network as well as a broadcast network.

Obviously, things ultimately worked out with Bravo because just today the network announced that it has indeed signed Kathy to a one-year deal, which she confirms, and it includes a fifth season of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List and calls for her to tape two comedy specials during her current nationwide tour as well as host the A-List Awards in 2009.

Variety Is The Spice Of Life For Rosie

Rosieodonnell Was anyone else surprised when Rosie O'Donnell didn't publicly explode after Proposition 8 was passed? While Melissa Etheridge declared she wasn't going to pay taxes anymore and other celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg took to the streets to participate in marches, Rosie was uncharacteristically quiet.

"I'm not vocal enough? I got married before anyone else did. I've been living it and living it for a very long time," Rosie told reporters during a conference call to promote her upcoming variety show Rosie Live, citing her 2004 marriage to her partner Kelli Carpenter in San Francisco.

Point taken.

FYI: Rosie won't be railing against Prop 8 or talking about politics at all for that matter during Rosie Live, which will air on NBC the night before Thanksgiving. "The job description here is to entertain...It will be an hour of fun, laughter, singing and dancing. No politics. No arguing. No talking about controversial things. That, to me, is what is needed now," Rosie said.

Tyra Gives Transgender Model The Ultimate Gift

Isisantp11 Christmas came early for Isis King this year, and it was Tyra Banks who was playing Santa.

The transgender model, who competed on this season of America's Next Top Model, got the gift of her life when she appeared on The Tyra Banks Show yesterday, and Tyra announced that Isis' would be getting gender reassignment surgery—for free.

Gender reassignment surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers will perform the operation, which would have cost Isis somewhere in the neighborhood of $35,000.

Thank God for Dan Savage

I've long been a fan of Dan Savage. Ya gotta love a guy who rose to fame as a no-holds barred sex columnist and now makes the rounds as one of the most articulate talking heads on gay issues. His frankness mixed with his ability to talk to virtually anyone - including D.L. Hughley - is exciting and empowering. Plus, he's hawt.

Here he is somehow finding a way to answer questions that D.L. Hughley can't seem to ask (how did this guy get a show on CNN?) and respond to sweeping generalizations that Hughley doesn't take ownership of. In five minutes, they touch on a whole range of issues affecting Prop 8, and Savage is always able to nimbly place these finer details in a broader context. He raises the level of discourse in every conversation, and in this case, ends up doing Hughley a huge favor by helping him out of the uncomforable corner he seemed to be backing himself into. Watch it, and tell me that Dan Savage doesn't deserve his own talk show on CNN.
