Vaginal Davis, not only writes about music for the LA Weekly, Spin,
Melody Maker and Q Magazine but being in three acclaimed conceptual art
bands: black fag, Pedro, Muriel & Esther and !Cholita! the female Menudo
she is the ultimate figurine to discuss what music one should purchase
and listen to. If you let her get away with it, she will art direct your
entire life.
Ms. Davis also DJ's and hosts the long running punk rock club, Sucker at
the Garage in Silverlake and just opened a new venue with partner Ron

Marine Research
"Songs From the Gulf Stream" (K-Records)
The #1 album of 1999. Puppy chow pop with sphilt of music hall thrown in for good
measure. The wall-of-sound Sandy Shaw like harmonies of Amelia and Cathy
are ever so serene. I'm in love with drummer DJ "Puzzle of a Downfall
Child.-he's so Peter Firth!
|
Mark Almond
"Open All Night" (Instinct/Blue Star)
Give me back my bracelet, its the only thing of value I have left!
|
Glen Meadmore
"Hot, Horny and Born Again"
One of the most under-rated records of the year.
Too bad no one knows this gay born again christian
cow punker. Originally from Winnipeg Canada, Ms. Meadmore should be as
successful as kd lang but because she's crazy is only able to release
sporadically on tiny indie labels.
|
Rufus Wainwright
(Dreamworks)
My favorite songs on this record is "Beauty Mark" and "Matinee Idol"
I love this boy even though I got nixed
from starring as Tosca in his video because the director said, Rufus
you're a star now and you have to disasociate yourself from all those
natty underground friends of yours.

Turbo Negro
Any thing by the Oslo Norway hard rock band Turbo Negro, who broke up
this year due to the lead singers raging heroin problem. Songs like "I
Got Erection", "Midnight Nambla", "Young Boys Feet" and the Genetlike
"Sailor Man" are right reverend anthems that you can't resist.
