Secret service: gay men and women in uniform

Gay or straight, members of the Armed Forces pledge to put their lives on the line for their country. Even though official policy still bars queer soldiers from the U.S. milita ry, gay men and women have served -- and continue to serve -- valiantly alongside their straight counterparts. And while the Armed Forces may not yet be as inclusive as they should be, PlanetOut recognizes that every soldier, regardless of his or her sexuality, deserves recognition. Our special coverage gives you access to a unique and varied set of perspectives -- from profiles of gay and lesbian service members, to resources for queer soldiers, to the latest developments in the fight over "don't ask, don't tell." You'll see military service in a whole new light -- perhaps a lavender one.
