Millennium March On Washington For Equality Announces Millennium Festival
The Millennium Festival, a two-day event happening Saturday and Sunday,
April 29-30, 2000, will be part of the festivities planned by the
organizers of the Millennium March on Washington for Equality, which is
scheduled for Sunday, April 30.
The Millennium Festival will take place on eight blocks of historic
Pennsylvania Avenue, and will feature a variety of gay-friendly vendors,
booths for community groups, food, drink, and entertainment. A
first-of-its-kind festival, the two-day event will be the largest
national festival in history. The event will also feature two dance
areas and a family area, along with wellness and cyber pavilions.
The Millennium Festival will take place from 11am-7pm on Saturday, April
29, with a dance at the festival grounds from 8pm-midnight. On Sunday,
April 30, the festival will again open at 11am and run until 8pm. A
celebratory tea dance will take place there after the Rally on the
National Mall, which is scheduled from noon-6pm. Admission to the
Millennium Festival will be a suggested donation of $5 to support the
Millennium March on Washington.
A perfect complement to the Millennium March and Rally, the festival
promises to be one of the most accessible and exciting events of the
Millennium March weekend. The Millennium Festival will be a national
festival that celebrates the extraordinary richness and diversity of
gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender culture, and will showcase the
very best the GLBT community has to offer, featuring outstanding
performers, valued community groups, and gay-friendly businesses from
around the country.
