Belinda Carlisle for Maine's No on 1

Turns out vacation is not all the lead singer of ‘80s pop supergroup the Go-Go's wanted. Belinda Carlisle has produced a heartfelt video to support efforts of the Protect Maine Equality organization.

The issue of LGBT rights and marriage equality is personal to Carlisle, and she says she recorded the PSA not as a celebrity or activist but as a mother. "“My son, James, is gay," Carlisle says in the clip, "and I want him and every other gay person out there to have the same opportunities and rights that I’ve had in life.”

Carlisle currently lives in France but is concerned about and committed to the fight for marriage equality in Maine. She encourages everyone to visit ProtectMaineEquality.org to make a donation.

Her son, James Duke Mason, "is a former congressional page and an outspoken proponent of gay rights" who "has developed a following on websites such as Facebook and YouTube by urging young gay people to become more politically active," according to Advocate.com.

Tell us: What do you think of Belinda Carlisle's PSA? What other celebrities would you like to see commit to the marriage equality cause?
