Odd that there is no mention or coverage of one of the largest Pride celebrations in the world in Toronto.

Orlanado has a ten day pride fesival every year. The activities are without limits...from gay cruises to theme parks to concerts. The sponsors are unbelievable...the hosts are incredible. Each Walt-Disney World park hosts on different days. I could go on and on and on... But all I really wanted to point out is that I have never saw a single mention of Orlando gay pride. Orlando was omitted from this listing like many other events, however there has not been mention of Orlando in any coverage this year or any other.

That isn't pride. That's facetious pompousness in full display.
Just remember. The world sees us as these images. Don't like how we're being treated, please try to think about the image being put forward.
Some here are saying the same things.
The "community" needs to wake up. We can't have it both ways.
Why I even came back, I'm not sure. Maybe there are decent people that are community-worthy. Wearing pink and lime green frocks and fairy wings and showing off one's body parts in a festival filled with body part-shaped balloons SENDS A BAD MESSAGE, LIKE IT OR NOT. People don't understand that, and it doesn't do anybody any good.
A couple pictures were certainly decent; nothing ribald or circus-worthy, but those are the exception. Unfortunately.
Want respect by the masses? The freak shows have got to stop. It's okay to be different, but one doesn't need to be outrageous.
Oh, before anyone mentions Mardi Gras - their antics are just as devolved. The trouble is, heterosexuals don't get to live through the freak show stimga by default. We do, because we are not heterosexuals. That's unfortunate, as people should see both freak show events the same way, but many heterosexuals don't; they just see "ours".
Heck, even saying you're "bi" in a personal ad brings out the stigma and stereotypes too.
Perceptions and perspectives, we ALL need to open our eyes and see the differences. It is not how it's sold to be, and predominant lifestyles are always going to have a lesser battle. That only makes our need to take things seriously more important. And if we're not, if that one week and one or two days where everyone looks at "the cause" is going to be shown solely as a bunch of people looking and acting as ridiculous and/or as vulgarly lewd as possible, nobody should be shocked we're not treated seriously. To say the least.

WHAT A FREAK SHOW. After looking at all that i turned straight. Every year its the same thing, freak parades around the world. why cant we have a parade like the macys thanksgiving day parade but alittle gayer?????????

And where is Atlanta's Pride Celebration? Moved to Halloween, I heard. What's with that? Trying to give the right wing a little more amo, huh?

Just about all of the comments here are comical. Nuts complaining about their event not being mentioned. Other nuts complaining because they are embarrassed by the freaks in the images. LOL, this is all so comical.
Seriously, most of the straight world never sees these images and a lot that do don't care and understand that these are just over the top parades. Stop complaining all the time and being embarrassed of your fellow freaks, cause believe it or not that is what you are too even if you try to put forth a good face. Its not all that grave.

how come planetout wasnt at ABQ NEW MEXICO'S gay pride it wasnt mentioned in this artical either it was pretty good too on may 13th and 14th 2009

Man, seeing these pics remind me exactly of why I don't do gay pride. If I was straight and saw these pictures, I would just laugh and my stereotyped views of the gay community would remain. And gay people really wonder why others don't take us seriously? I'm bi and seeing pics like this really steer me towards women.

And what about the third largest pride in the USA in Minneapolis St Paul?
Posted by: Dan | 06/30/2009 at 04:49 AM

I was surprised at the Irish one (0,0). very pro-hate.
Posted by: sammy | 07/09/2009 at 04:20 AM
the outlandish parade photos are funny, the parade is just that a parade to entertain, the real "normal" aspect are the vendors and corporate sponsors showing their need for our out community to be one. So you people that think its a freak show, well stay in the closet and laugh, but don't ride the coattails of us gay men/women not afraid to mainstream a fun time

People should just lighten up! Are Gay Pride Parads/CSD Parades shallow and overly commercial? Yep - but there is also usually a feeling of community and enjoyment. In this day of economic and political instability/uncertainity a much needed dose of happiness can work wonders. Can WE(the community) do better? Yes and many are working on the issue. lets support them and quit knocking their efforts - so quit complaining and join up with a support group and make a difference. Negativity is NOT attractive!
Berlin has a good Gay Pride Parade, but the week before is "Street Festival" with many more events.
BUT
When in Europe., COLOGNE(KÖLLE )IS "THE CSD/GAY PRIDE PARADE. The city on the banks of the Rhein is home to one of the largest gay/Lesbian population in middle Europe and the first weekend of July is the place to be.
