About the NEW PlanetOut.com

When PlanetOut.com first launched in the 90's, it was immediately recognized as the destination for all things gay. PlanetOut.com served as the first point of contact for many gays, linking them to a broader, burgeoning online community for the first time in their lives.

In the decade since, it's amazing how much the world has changed – for us as individuals and as a community.  Back then, most of PlanetOut.com’s audience was in the closet; now we’re clamoring to get out. Who'd have thought that gay marriage would be on the table, that gay and lesbians would be so widely represented on primetime television, or that gay-themed films would be Oscar contenders? 

We've changed and the world has changed. As being gay has become, for a lack of a better word, mainstream, we are less defined by our sexual identity and increasingly recognized for the broad array of personalities and interests that make up the gay community.

We're just as interested in the economic crisis as we are same-sex marriage, and we're just as likely to watch CNN as we are "Project Runway.”  We’re just as interested in sports as the hetero-next-door, and avidly seek out travel adventures beyond a “gay-only” cruise. 

We are no longer content to live within the prescribed confines of a “gay lifestyle.” We are speaking up and out, revealing a diverse community eager to broaden the conversation.

Enter the new PlanetOut.com...

We're still the destination for all things gay, but now, we're better.  At the new PlanetOut.com, we're expanding the dialogue to better reflect our community, and we're doing it in real time.  The newly designed and completely rebuilt PlanetOut.com features the most up-to-date information in Entertainment, Travel, Lifestyle and Hot Topics. Our content is written by experts, consumers, insiders and enthusiasts, and our readers can comment, participate and – most importantly – become the story.
