Ellen, Single Again
Ellen DeGeneres, who ended media speculation about the identity of her new girlfriend in September,
is single yet again. She and actress Alexandra Hedison, 31, "had too many differences to be in a relationship,"
according to sources close to the couple reporting in Us Weekly Magazine.
Hedison, an actress on Nash Bridges, Prey,
OP Center, and in the TV movie Blackout Effect, accompanied
DeGeneres to Lifetime Channel's "Women Rock: Girls with Guitars" October 12
at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, CA -- after much gossip about the "hot, tall brunette"
seen around Los Angeles with DeGeneres.
Gossip columnist Liz Smith reported
in September that Anne Heche is romantically linked too -- with a man.
Heche and Coley Laffoon -- a 28 year-old cameraman hired to work on her documentary film of
Ellen's cross-country standup tour -- are not only still dating late in October,
but may even be expecting a child.
Earlier this fall, according to Inside.com, Heche closed a deal with Scribner to publish
her memoir. An executive at Simon and Schuster said that the book will focus
less on typical Hollywood tell-all details and more on how the 31 year-old's traumatic
upbringing has affected her adult life. Heche is expected to receive an advance in
the high six-figure range.
Before their breakup in August, DeGeneres and Heche had been virtually inseparable since their
introduction at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 1997. Though their
relationship was the constant target of speculation, they were undoubtedly,
for many, the first visible representation of a happy gay couple
anywhere in mainstream media. Usually referred to as simply
"Ellen and Anne," the duo became somewhat of a gay "first couple," even
traveling to the White House for a widely publicized (and criticized)
dinner with the Clintons.
Their collaboration on HBO's recent If These Walls Could Talk 2 -- in which
Heche directed DeGeneres and Sharon Stone in a segment about a
happily domestic lesbian couple on a mission to get pregnant -- was widely
interpreted to reflect their real-life relationship. They often spoke of their desire to
move to Vermont if gay marriage was legalized there.
