Nathan Lane
Born: February 3, 1956
Birthplace: Jersey City, New Jersey
Quote: "I don't think I'm a role model; my dating history alone would disqualify me."
The campy and frequently over-the-top Nathan Lane has scored again with
his performances as a jaded emcee in Sundance fave Trixie and the Jacqueline Susann biopic
Isn't She Great.
Although the latter
received mixed reviews, Lane received praise for his portrayal of the late trashy novelist's worshipful husband-cum-manager.
At 44, Lane has a long career in film, stage, and television under his
belt. His stage debut was in Noel Coward's Present Laughter, in
which he played a playwright, to rave reviews. After that, roles began to
find him. Lane starred in theater productions of Guys and Dolls, Love!
Valour! Compassion!, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the
Forum, among others. In 1987 Lane was cast in his first film role,
in the Depression-era drama Ironweed. He has gone on to star in
close to twenty films, including The Birdcage, Jeffrey, and last
year's Get Bruce.
