'The Prisoner': An Exclusive Look at Stars Sir Ian McKellen, Jim Caviezel & Jamie Campbell Bower

AMC has way more than Mad Men to offer fans when it comes to phenomenal high-quality, intelligent, and intense television. The network is gearing up for a huge, three-night television event beginning November 15 when its reimagining of the 1967 cult classic TV series The Prisoner premieres.  Planet Out has previews and exclusive pictures of the stars, Sir Ian McKellen, Jim Caviezel and Jamie Campbell Bower.

The mysterious six-part series centers on a government agent known only as Six, played by The Passion of the Christ's Jim Caviezel, who is kidnapped and awakens on a mysterious island called "The Village." The leader of the bizarre civilization, Two, played by two-time Academy Award nominee and LGBT activist Sir Ian McKellen, holds the secrets to Six's escape.

Unless Six (Caviezel) can conquer and outwit Two (McKellen), he will never escape The Village.

Jamie Campbell Bower, from Sweeney Todd and the upcoming Twilight Saga: New Moon, also costars in the exciting drama as Two's son.

The Prisoner with 2000s-vintage sexuality added in! It seems that something has been taken out -- the intellectual content of the original series. Patrick McGoohan's Prisoner was as much a commentary about his own mind and how it reached out to the classic confrontation between the individual and the society. This new Prisoner seems to be more James Bond in captivity -- merely following his efforts to escape. What the original series recognized is that the Prisoner could never escape himself.

Based on the clips, the name of the new series ought to be Number Two. McKellen brings an edge to the role that was missing in the original series, although Leo McKern came very close to achieving it. Ah, for a sequel to Gods and Monsters with the now mature Brendan Fraser! Now that would be worth seeing!

2000's vintage sexuality? How could anyone rival Patrick McGoohan's intense and thereby sexual portrayal?

2000s-vintage sexuality is sloppy sex -- guys that are beautiful beyond all possible hope, and therefore not plausible in anything other than a tearoom setting. You could imagine winning over McGoohan through sheer force of will, charm and the right circumstances, but not Caviezel.

if its not broke don't fix it

at least when olivier pimped himself out in the final decades of his life it was with the rationale of leaving enough money behind for his family; what is mckellen's excuse?

mmm, can't wait to see caviezel remake "citizen kane" -- or has jim carrey been signed for that?
