Say Goodbye to Farrah
I’ll always remember Farrah Fawcett as Jill Munroe, one-third of the iconic “Charlie’s Angels” silhouette, standing in karate pose, with her hands drawn amid explosive fire. She was just shy of 30 back in 1976, already a worldwide phenom thanks to the poster hung around the world, which featured the blonde, blue-eyed actress in a sexy red swimsuit. Her sex appeal was undeniable, and her curly lion’s mane hairstyle would be copied for the remainder of the decade.
But Farrah was more than her blonde locks. She was a credible actress, not only appearing in such big-screen classics as 1970's “Myra Breckinridge,” and 1976’s “Logan’s Run,” but also in more challenging roles, as a battered wife in “The Burning Bed” (1984) and a sexual assault victim in “Extremities” (1986), for which roles she was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe respectively. It would be on TV that Fawcett would hit her stride throughout 1980’s with bio-pics on heiress Barbara Hutton and legendary photographer Margaret Bourke-White.
Fawcett’s personal life could have been fodder for one of these melodramas. After her marriage to Lee Majors from 1973-1982 ended, according to reports, because Fawcett refused to be his stay-at-home wife, the actress quickly became involved in a stormy on again-off again relationship with turbulent actor Ryan O’Neal. Their child together, Redmond O'Neal, born in 1985, has long struggled with addiction and is currently serving time in prison on a narcotics charge.
Fawcett’s personal and professional lives would merge in a recent, two-hour documentary “Farrah's Story,” which aired last month on NBC and was watched by nearly 9 million people . The film documented the final stages of Fawcett’s struggle with anal cancer, which she was diagnosed with in 2006, and the treatments, some conventional, some experimental with which she was battling the disease.
In her most courageous role yet, our favorite angel battled her greatest foe, only this time she lost. Fawcett passed early this morning at the age of 62, but she lives on in our hearts and minds -- every time we stand in Charlie’s Angels pose, channeling that Jill Munroe fierceness, which Fawcett played in every aspect of her life.
We'd love to hear what Farrah Fawcett meant to you in your life. Take a moment and share your Farrah with us.
PlanetOut will collect all of your messages and deliver them to Fawcett's estate.

I'm relieved that her battle is over. I lost my sister to breast cancer and that last year, when you know there is no way they can recover, is most difficult. You actually start to hope for her to finally pass. Cancer is a monster! This is an illness we must put an end to. People should not be dying from this awful disease at such young ages. I hope someday somebody finds a way to stop it.

Who can ever forget that beautiful face and hair!! My heart goes out to her family friends, loved ones and especially her father. It has to be a parents worst nightmare to bury a child. I giver her so much credit for putting up a great fight against cancer right to the end. I know the other members of Charlies Angels will miss her dearly and have fond memories of their time in the TV set as the worlds Hottest ladies. You are at peace now Farrah, god bless you for all you did for everyone.

I remember Charlie's Angels and Farrah Fawcett's role in this popular nightime television show during the 1970's - Farrah as an actress so wowed the American public, that my Dad's sister named her daughter, Farrah, after Ms. Fawcett. May GOD bless Farrah's soul upon entrance to that heavenly paradise while also comforting her family, friends and admirers during this time of mourning. Amen.

I'm totally devastated that she has lost her battle as I watch my own sister battle Cancer. Helpless, unable to do anything other than watch and support, knowing the eventual outcome. I'm just crushed and lost for words!

I have no feelings about this whatsoever. She was a famous actress and a complete stranger. She wasnt a part of my life and I wasnt a part of her life and just because she was famous doesnt make her any more important than anyone else.

Despite the fact that when i was younger I couldn't understand for the life of me why the poster caused such a hubub because i was really too younger to understand that i was attracted to men you did 2 things in life.
You brought a lot of people together in your beauty
But in the end they saw your inner beauty through your open courageous battle with a medical enemy

I loved Farrah, since I was a young boy and now a 45 I was hoping she could beat the battle. I wished that Ryan and she had been able to marry and her son to be there. God Bless the family and all of her dearest friends and family...

As a gay boy, Christmas 1976 was one of my most fond memories. At age 8, I received the Charlie's Angels dolls from Santa. It was one of my best Christmas presents ever. I was such a huge fan of Charlie's Angels and still am. Farrah was beautiful human being, had great talent and was valient in her effort to fight cancer.

Farrah was very cool. I remember her more for The Burning Bed. Being a child raised in a domestic violence atmosphere it was incredible the way she fought back and overcame the obstacles. She will be missed as a role model, an incredible actress, and a wife and mother.

What a sad year this has been. Bea Arthur, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson. Lots of talent lost this year.
Posted by: Ryan | 06/25/2009 at 08:58 PM
I am very saddened by the news of Farrahs passing. But at the same time I am proud all of her pain, and suffering is over. I have always loved Farrah, as an actress, and after watching her documentary on battling her cancer, I fell in love with her as a person, because I believe that was so courageous of her to share her battle, all the pain and suffering she endured fighting the cancer, in an effort to educate others on this nasty disease, and particularly the rare type of cancer she had. My heart goes out to Ryan, and her son Redmund, and all her family, and friends. Farrah, you are now, more than ever an Angel, and although you will be greatly missed, I find comfort knowing that you are finally able to rest in peace, and that all your pain, and suffering is over. You touched so many lives, during your time here on Earth, and I can only imagine how many lives you will touch, and bless now. R.I.P
